As important as basketball is, your mind and body comes first and health, school and family are always the primary considerations with student athletes at all times.
Help each player reach their maximum potential both on and off the court and communicate individually to each and every player on progress as needed throughout the year.
Maximize team talent and get the most out of the collective group and develop both team chemistry and pride throughout the entire basketball program.
Never allow one person’s individual goals to take priority over the team at any time.
Allow for different roles and talent levels, but make sure everyone knows their contribution is important and is noticed and appreciated.
Make sure contributions are visible, particularly ones that don’t show on the scoreboard or stat sheet but are vital to team success, even if just at practices.
We will encourage players to compete against each other at the highest level to foster improvement, and build competitive will, but not to the detriment of team unity overall.
Basketball is a craft, like any other profession or skill, and we will teach it at the highest level for those that truly wish to master this craft.
Help players prepare both on and off the court that aspire to play basketball at the next level from a recruitment and qualification perspective.
Discipline is for the purpose of teaching: not to humiliate, punish or embarrass.
Corrective action will be done in a positive fashion emphasizing the need for improvement without losing motivation within.
Coaches will treat the players as you would want someone to treat your own child.
Make limited rules, but once rules are made, enforce fairly and consistently.
Always define expectations for both players and parents and communicate openly and honestly even if it means it may hurt someone’s feelings temporarily.
Always practice with a purpose and with a plan and show players where we are going and how we plan to get there.
Drills at practice are not designed to fill time, they are part of a master plan that should be communicated to all coaches and players so they drill with a purpose
It is not how often you are in the gym, it is what you do when you are there: quality training will always surpass quantity
Always be willing to learn both as players and coaches and share information and feedback and learn from each other and allow for constructive feedback and comments
Be willing to adjust your system to the kind of players you have and the talents that best suit them
How a team practices will be how a team plays: practices go hard from start to finish, always starting and finishing on time, with a purpose, with maximum effort, discipline, positive attitude, hard work and fun
If players swear and complain about calls in practice, they will do it in a game eventually and respect and discipline starts at practice
We will work with our trainers and medical staff to protect our bodies and improve both our strength and our flexibility and reduce potential for injury
We will be a basketball family, and not just a team: we will care about our teammates for more than just their ability to contribute on the floor
Juniors and seniors will make freshman and sophomores feel welcome and an effort will be made for the entire program to bond, not just individual teams within the program
Plan your program not just for one game or for one season, but for years ahead, looking to your freshman class and beyond
We will treat the refs, opposing coaches and players, and other gyms with respect and gratitude
